When violence and tragedy struck one local family, it left in its wake a home that simply didn’t work for one homeowner. Now wheelchair bound, he was unable to go outside, unable to shower properly, unable to maneuver well in his own home. After contacting Rebuilding Together Kansas City, JJ and her husband were able to receive the critical modifications necessary to have quality of life, including a new shower and wheelchair ramp.
“You wouldn’t think that just a shower would uplift your soul,” said JJ. In fact, her husband stayed in his first shower in two years for over an hour!

Rebuilding Together Kansas City is transforming the lives of neighbors in need! We’re helping neighbors like Linda, a disabled veteran raising a son with disabilities who had water issues in her home, including needing a new roof and dealing with a basement that leaked. On a fixed income, these repairs seemed out of reach.
"I was really struggling with how to keep a roof over my head when it was literally falling down," she said.
Rebuilding Together Kansas City worked with vendor partners to replace the home's roof and mobilized volunteers to install a French drain and repair a basement window that was taking in water. "Finding Rebuilding Together was a dream," she said.
