The Numbers are In: 2024 Broke All Records

Last year was the year of more – more project sites served, more repairs completed, more volunteers recruited, more sites completed during Rebuilding Day… and more. Thank you for such a successful 2024. Your gifts of time and treasure were integral to our success.

In 2024, Rebuilding Together Kansas City completed projects on 133 home sites throughout Clay, Platte, and Jackson Counties in Missouri. On those home sites, we completed 993 critical repairs, 68% more than the year prior. We could not have accomplished this work without the 345 volunteers who served with us, providing over 3,650 hours – a value of $122,340!

2025 is shaping up to be a year of more as well – more need, more projects to complete, more funding needed, more volunteers to recruit. In fact, already this year we have 70 applications on our waiting list. Can we count on you again in 2025 to help us serve even more neighbors in need? Rebuilding Day 2024 Engages Over 250 Volunteers

The weather may have tried to keep us at bay, but there was no stopping the hundreds of volunteers that turned out for Rebuilding Day 2024 on Saturday, September 21! With the help of over 250 volunteers, as well as our site sponsors, Rebuilding Together Kansas City was able to complete 22 home projects! These projects ranged from clearing landscaping and brush to installing ramps and handrails.

“I love Rebuilding Day because it is a picture of the community coming together,” said Executive Director Scott Hickox. “It’s a picture of people who care for their community, who care for their neighbors, and want to make a tangible difference.”

Through our work, neighbors like Judy are able to receive critical repairs on their homes that they could not otherwise afford. Judy’s home was able to receive new siding, a new deck, and more.

“You feel the love that people have for you,” she said. “[That love] just surrounds you.”

Rebuilding Day 2024: Over 250 Volunteers to Transform Homes and Lives Across Kansas City

Rebuilding Together Kansas City is thrilled to announce Rebuilding Day 2024, set for Saturday, September 21. This annual event is a cornerstone of Rebuilding Together. On Rebuilding Day 2024, over 250 volunteers will come together to work on more than 20 homes throughout the Kansas City metro area. Volunteers will provide essential repairs and safety modifications, including roof repairs, plumbing fixes, accessibility improvements, and safety upgrades.

“I love Rebuilding Day because it is a picture of the community coming together,” said Executive Director Scott Hickox. “It’s a picture of people who care for their community, who care for their neighbors, and want to make a tangible difference.”

This effort will be impactful, enhancing the quality of life for many low-income neighbors in need. Rebuilding Day is made possible through the support of site sponsors, donors, crew leaders, and organized groups of volunteers.

Rebuilding Together Kansas City, an affiliate of the national nonprofit Rebuilding Together, Inc., is one of the largest volunteer organizations in the United States dedicated to improving the homes and lives of low-income families, seniors, people living with disabilities, and veterans. Each year, Rebuilding Together Kansas City provides critical repairs and safety modifications for over 150 low-income families in the Kansas City community, at no cost to them.

In addition to Rebuilding Day, Rebuilding Together Kansas City is proud to highlight its recent partnership with Kansas City Chief’s Travis Kelce and his foundation, Eighty-Seven & Running. Together, they made transformative repairs to the home of a former decorated athlete, including a new roof, gutters, safety latches, handrails, and updates to the bathroom and kitchen.

“At its core, a home should be a place of connection, a place of safety and security, a place of refuge,” said Hickox. “When a person’s house begins to lose some of those things because they can’t keep up, it’s not safe, or they can’t afford repairs, we help. We do more than repair homes, we rebuild lives.”

EquipmentShare Volunteers Transform Backyard of Local Resident

For the second year in a row, EquipmentShare volunteers have partnered up with Rebuilding Together Kansas City to transform the home of a local homeowner. Over 20 employee volunteers came out to the site to help rebuild a deck and do yard clean-up.

“Everybody works great together. Everybody lends a hand. Everybody’s willing to pitch in and do whatever they can,” said one of their employees.

The Opus Group and Hallmark Partner to Support RTKC

The Opus Group, a commercial real estate developer, recently worked with Hallmark to build its new distribution center. Part of this project included an effort to give back to the community and make it a better place to live, work, play, and raise a family. As a result of its collaboration with Hallmark, The Opus Foundation granted $40,000 to three Liberty-area nonprofits, including Rebuilding Together Kansas City.

“Because care for the community is not only a principle of our corporate responsibility, but also a value of Hallmark’s, that direction from the top enabled [us] to give back to Liberty in meaningful ways,” said Joe Downs, Opus Foundation Board Director.
